Spring Kickoff at Split Lane Cycles

Get Your Blades Ready for the Season!

The 2026 Season Opener

Dust off the leather, fire up the engine, and find that box of dull kitchen knives you’ve been ignoring all winter. The Knife Guy is hitting the road.

Split Lane Cycles is hosting its Annual Spring Kickoff. This isn't just a gathering for motorcycle enthusiasts; it’s a full-throttle community event designed to get your gear — and your tools — primed for the warmer months.

Why You Need to Attend

Motorcycles and sharp edges share a common thread: precision. Whether you are tuning your bike for a long ride or prepping your lawn for the first mow of the season, maintenance is non-negotiable.

This event features live music, food trucks, a mobile DYNO, and a variety of vendors. Between checking out the bikes and grabbing a bite, you can handle your chores. Bring your tools for drop-off service, blade clean-up, consultations, and retail shopping.

Lawn Mower Blade Sharpening

The grass is already growing. If you haven't checked your mower blades since last October, they are probably dull, chipped, or unbalanced. Drop your mower blades off at Split Lane Cycles. I’ll take them back to the shop, put a precision edge on them, and ensure they are perfectly balanced before you pick them up.

Why Professional Sharpening Matters:

A black checkmark icon enclosed within a circle.

Healthier Grass:

A sharp blade cuts the grass cleanly. A dull blade tears it, leaving your lawn susceptible to disease and browning.

Engine Efficiency:

Clean cuts require less force. Your mower won't have to work as hard, extending the life of your equipment.

Balance:

An unbalanced blade vibrates. Vibration kills spindles and bearings.

Garden Tool Repair & Maintenance

Spring planting is here. Your loppers, pruners, and spades have likely been sitting in a damp shed all winter. Rust is the enemy of garden tool repair. Bring your garden arsenal to the event. A quick consultation can save you from buying expensive replacements at the big-box stores.

Common Issues I Resolve:

Seized Joints:

Sap and rust can lock up high-end pruners.

Burred Edges:

Hitting a rock or a wire can ruin a bypass pruner’s ability to make a clean cut.

Pitting:

I can sand back surface oxidation to keep your tools from degrading further.

Kitchen Knife Safety and Transport

If you are searching for "knife sharpening near me," you probably have a drawer full of dull kitchen steel. Bringing them to the event is easy, but it must be done safely. Dull knives are the most dangerous tools in your house. They require more pressure to cut, making them prone to slipping.

Transport Protocol

Trust the Professional Process

The Knife Guy is a locally owned and operated business. I don’t just run a stone over your blade; I treat every tool like it’s my own.

When you drop off your tools at Split Lane Cycles, you aren't leaving them with a faceless corporation. You are leaving them with a craftsman. I am an Accredited Business with the BBB, ensuring that your property is handled with professional integrity.

What to Expect at the Shop

While I love doing event pop-ups, the real magic happens at the workbench. If you can't make it to Hatboro on the 12th, you can always contact me directly for a shop appointment.

Heat Management:

I use professional-grade cooling methods to ensure the temper of your steel is never compromised.

Precision Angles:

Every tool has a specific purpose and requires a specific edge angle. I don't do "one size fits all" sharpening.

Restoration

Beyond sharpening, I offer full knife restoration services. If it’s broken, I can likely fix it.

Community and Craftsmanship

The Split Lane Cycles Spring Kickoff is about more than just bikes and blades. It’s about the Hatboro community coming together to support local makers and businesses.

I’ve been recognized as a top sharpening service in the area because I focus on the details. You can see examples of my work in our online gallery to understand the level of finish I provide.

What to Expect at Our Events

Our sharpening events are organized with efficiency and care in mind. When you arrive, we assess each item to determine the appropriate sharpening method based on blade type, condition, and intended use.

We commonly service:

Kitchen knives (all styles and sizes)
Hunting and outdoor knives
Pocket knives and everyday carry blades
Scissors and shears
Garden tools and specialty blades

Each item is sharpened using professional-grade equipment and techniques developed over decades of experience. Our goal is not just to sharpen, but to restore performance, extend the life of your tools, and improve safety through proper edge geometry.

WHY ATTEND A SHARPENING EVENT

Knife sharpening is often overlooked until performance noticeably declines. Dull blades require more force, reduce precision, and increase the risk of slipping during use. Attending a sharpening event helps you stay ahead of that decline.

Benefits include:

Convenience – Local events eliminate the need for extended drop-offs
Speed – Many items are completed the same day
Expert Care – Each blade is handled with attention to detail and proper technique
Cost Efficiency – Maintain your tools instead of replacing them prematurely
Community Access – Meet a trusted local specialist and ask questions directly

Our events are designed to serve a wide range of individuals and industries:

Homeowners maintaining everyday kitchen tools
Professional chefs and culinary staff
Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts
Collectors preserving valuable or sentimental blades
Tradespeople using precision cutting tools

Whether you are bringing one knife or an entire set, our process is built to handle both small and large quantities efficiently.

Who These Events Are For

What Sets Us Apart

Local Focus

We know the needs of our neighbors. Whether it’s a preferred edge for hunting in local terrain or the knives used by regional chefs, we tailor our recommendations for real-world use.

Customized Angles & Edge Profiles

Not all blades should be ground to the same angle. We customize edge geometry for the intended use — slicing, chopping, piercing, or heavy duty work — balancing sharpness and durability.

Broad Experience with Specialty Blades

From Japanese high-carbon steels to modern powdered metallurgy alloys, we’ve sharpened a wide range of materials. Our methods are adapted to preserve coatings, differential tempering, and unique blade constructions.

Honest Repair and Restoration

If a blade needs more extensive repair, such as re-profiling or tip reconstruction, we provide upfront assessments and realistic expectations. We never oversell services and will discuss the options that make sense for the blade’s value and function.

Our Team

Our technicians have been trained in multiple sharpening systems and techniques, including whetstones, belt systems, guided sharpening, and hand strops. They combine machine consistency with hand-finished quality to achieve lasting edges that feel balanced and predictable.

Care & Conservation

We focus on minimizing material removal. Techniques include progressive grits for controlled removal, micro-beveling to protect main bevels, and stropping to refine the edge. For fragile or antiqued blades, we use conservative methods to maintain character while restoring functionality.

Community Involvement

We support local culinary events, farmer’s markets, and outdoor clubs by offering sharpening clinics and demonstrations. Teaching people safe, effective sharpening and maintenance practices is part of how we give back.

WHY KNIFE MAINTENANCE MATTERS FOR HOMEOWNERS AND PROFESSIONALS

Maintaining sharp tools reduces accidents, speeds tasks, and keeps work consistent. Dull blades require more force, which increases the chance of slips and mistakes.

For chefs, a sharp knife makes food prep efficient and preserves ingredient structure and quality.

For hunters, a reliable edge is essential for field dressing and safe processing.
